When it’s safer to travel, one of the restaurants I’m determined to visit is James Beard award-winning chef and now author Mashama Bailey’s The Grey in Savannah, Georgia. In the meantime, I’m getting into her dual memoir with business partner John O. Morisano ☛BLACK, WHITE AND THE GREY [pub: Lorena Jones Books] the same way I got into her life story the first time I saw it on episode six of the Netflix series Chef’s Table. For some reason, I initially thought it was a cookbook. But, no, it’s better. Black, White, And The Grey tells the unlikely and inspiring story of a Black woman chef and a white Italian man partnering to open a once segregated Greyhound bus station into a celebrated restaurant. Catch Mashama in a virtual conversation tomorrow at 8 p.m. brought to you by the Museum of Food and Drink. Then check out Barrett Bookstore’s virtual event next month with both authors discussing their book on Wednesday, March 24th at 8 p.m.
Take a listen to this moving audio excerpt of Black, White, And The Grey read by both authors Mashama Bailey and John O. Morisano:
